Lopez did flash his power at the end of the fifth round knocking down Salido which may have ended the fight if it occurred earlier in the round. The action stayed consistent throughout the fight with the ninth being a round of the year candidate. In round 10, Salido while his eyes swelled landed a series of devastating punches including uppercuts leading to a left hand that dropped JuanMa. He did get up, but was noticeably hurt and the referee waived the fight.
Two of the judges had it 86-84 for Lopez and another scored it a draw 85-85; Showtime's unofficial score was 88-83 for Salido. Fight Night Blog also had it 88-83 for Salido. Strangely, Juan Manuel Lopez said in the post fight interview with Jim Gray that the bout was stopped because the referee has a gambling problem. Despite controversy, it was a great fight.
In the co-feature, Mikey Garcia (28-0, KO 24) defeated Bernabe Concepcion (29-6-1, KO 15). The bout was methodical and the crowd booed early. Mikey began to pick up the pace around rounds five and six in which he started connecting more flush and stepped up his aggression. By the seventh, Garcia knocked down Concepcion and TKO'd him with 27 seconds left in the round.
